Botox FAQ

What is Botox?

Botox is a time-tested, FDA-cleared product used for the treatment of moderate to severe lines and wrinkles around the eyes, eyebrows, and forehead.  Botox can also be applied to areas of the face for rejuvenation and improvement of balance and structure.

How does Botox work?

Botox is injected into a muscle to modulate and soften the muscle action. By doing this, the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles is reduced.

What is Botox typically used for?

Botox is used to temporarily soften the action of the muscles that cause squinting, lines and wrinkles. Botox can also be used in the masseter muscles to reduce a thick jawline, in the underarms or hands to treat excessive sweating, in the neck muscles to tighten loose skin and so much more.

How long does Botox last?

A Botox treatment typically lasts 3 months, and should only be administered by a licensed registered nurse, nurse practitioner or medical doctor.

Who can be treated with Botox?

Botox cosmetic is suitable for men and women ages 20-60+.

How is Botox treatment unique?

Botox has been used successfully since the 1980’s and continues to be one of the most popular rejuvenation treatments loved by many. It works well and treatment is easy, with results developing in less than 2 weeks

Are results of Botox permanent?

A Botox treatment typically lasts up to 3 months, requiring re-treatment for continued results.

Is Botox safe?

Botox has been used safely and successfully for over 30 years. At Keys Med Spa, only Dr George Peterson M.D., P.A  administers Botox treatments.

Who should not get Botox treatments?

Botox is not suitable for those who have an infection at the proposed injection site(s) and in individuals with known hypersensitivity to any botulinum toxin preparation or to any of the components in the formulation. Caution should be used when Botox is intended to be used on areas where there is inflammation present, or there is excessive weakness or atrophy of the muscles to be targeted.

What does a Botox treatment feel like?

Most feel no sensation during or after a Botox treatment. Some may feel a slight pinprick and a light bit of pressure at the injection sites, with mild to virtually no pain

Is Botox suitable for men, too?

Absolutely. Men, as well as women, can appreciate great results from Botox cosmetic treatments at Keys Med Spa.

How long does a Botox treatment take?

A Botox treatment typically takes 15 to 30 minutes to complete.

How many Botox treatments will I need?

Typically one treatment every 3 months is suitable for most cases. Because we believe in conservative treatment, a first-time Botox visit may require a second follow up 2 weeks later to deliver more treatment should further correction be desired. Follow up treatments do require an additional purchase and are not included as part of the initial treatment.

When will I see results from Botox?

Results from a Botox treatment typically develop 14 days post-treatment. In some cases, results can be seen as soon as 5 days after your treatment.

Will my results look natural?

Yes, because Dr. George Peterson M.D.,P.A believes in the conservative approach. A first-time Botox treatment will generally include up to typical dosing for the treated areas. A follow-up appointment 2 weeks after treatment may be required to deliver more Botox should further correction be desired. Follow up treatments do require an additional purchase and are not included as part of the initial treatment

is there any downtime post Botox treatment?

No, there is no downtime post-Botox; however, you will want to ensure that you do not receive a massage, lay on the treated areas, workout, or consume alcohol the same day of your Botox treatment.

What are the typical side effects of Botox treatment?

Generally, negative side effects from Botox occur in as few as 1-3% of cases. In 1% of cases, eyelid edema (accumulation of fluid) was noted in the treatment of crow’s feet (around the eyes). In 3% of cases, eyelid drooping was reported following the treatment of eyebrow lines. In 2% of cases, a headache was reported following treatment of Botox to forehead lines. While rare, some bruising and acne at the injection site are the main side effects of Botox treatment.

Can I get Botox before a special event or travel?

Because Botox typically takes up to 2 weeks for full effect, treatment is recommended at least 2 weeks prior to your special event. This will allow results to develop as well as allow time for healing should any bruising or acne at the treated site be noted. Travel post-treatment is completely safe. Massages, facials, yoga, workouts and alcohol consumption are to be avoided on the same day of your Botox treatment.
